A Tryst that Made me Wonder !!!
When life is at its monotonous best, something unusual happens which takes you by surprise. Ok, not surprise but then such incidents make you wonder and ponder.
On a usual day after the office, I and my roomie struggled to find a rick who would be kind enough to commute us to Goregaon from Andheri. And we were fortunate as we got one soon. As the journey progressed the curious Auto guy spoke about the MNS issues etc. and he mentioned he was from South India rather Chennai. I started interacting in Tamil and then we came to know about his past and present which made us wonder.
He came down to Mumbai when he was 16 years old and has been plying Auto-rickshaw since then. Looking at his present age he would have completed 40 years in this city. His eldest son works for Godrej (which I thought would be a menial job) but his salary is around 35k/month. His second son has set up a business and earns 40K/month and owns a Maruti Zen. His 3rd son is also working for some company after completing his education. He has a daughter who is studying. He owns 4 auto-rickshaws and he still drives one himself because he doesn't want to sit idle. He has brought a shop in Chennai worth 15 lacs and has a house in Andheri East, Mumbai.
He proudly states that every morning his eldest son cleans the rickshaw and then goes to office and also plies rickshaw on sundays.
His monthly earnings by plying auto-rickshaw is above 30K/Month and also runs a vegetable shop in Andheri.
You all must be thinking why have I shared this whole story.
Mumbai is called 'City of Dreams' and many come here to fulfill theirs. Such stories could be very common in this city where people have moved from rags to riches, but this person seemed different. He continues to ply the rickshaw. He has educated 4 of his children who are all set to reach various heights in their respective field.
He could fulfill the dreams because of the relentless effort he has put in and he still continues to do so. Such people are True Heroes of this Nation. They are the Face of this Nation; a nation which survives in minimals making adjustments everywhere. People like this who have defied Adversities and are standing strong as a banyan tree with the hanging roots getting even stronger.
Hats off to his resilience !!!
A Great Inspiration.....
